Chris played a particularly significant role in nurturing his son’s talent from a young age.

Fueled by his own passion for motorsport, Chris introduced Oscar to go-karting at the age of nine and became his mechanic during the early stages of his racing career in Australia.

This hands-on approach provided Oscar with a strong foundation in the technical aspects of racing, while also fostering a deep love for the sport.

Nicole, Oscar’s mother, also played a crucial role in his upbringing. While she may not have been directly involved in the technical side of things like Chris, she shared his enthusiasm for cars.

She reportedly owns a collection of vintage automobiles, hinting at her own appreciation for the beauty and mechanics of vehicles.

More importantly, her unwavering support and encouragement created a nurturing environment for Oscar to chase his dreams on the racetrack.

It’s worth noting that Oscar’s journey to F1 wasn’t solely backed by his parents’ passion. Chris, the founder and owner of HP Tuners, a successful automotive software company, invested heavily in his son’s racing career.

Early career

Piastri’s racing journey began on the tracks, but not with a Formula car.

He started honing his skills with remote-controlled cars at a national level in Australia before graduating to karting in 2011 at the young age of 9.

After mastering the Australian karting scene, Piastri took his talents to Europe in 2015, competing in various CIK-FIA sanctioned championships with Ricky Flynn Motorsport.

Committed to pushing his limits, he then relocated to the United Kingdom in 2016, putting his skills to the test against some of the best young drivers and even managing a respectable sixth-place finish in the 2016 World Championship held in Bahrain.

This success on the karting circuit paved the way for Piastri’s foray into single-seater racing. At just 15 years old, he dipped his toes into the Formula 4 UAE Championship with Dragon Racing.

While he only participated in three of the five rounds, his raw talent shone through, securing him two podium finishes and a commendable sixth place in the overall standings.

This early achievement hinted at the exceptional driver Piastri would become.

Formula One career

Piastri’s Formula One career is only just beginning, but it’s already off to a remarkable start. The young Australian driver didn’t take the traditional route into F1.

Instead, he dominated the junior feeder series, winning the Formula Renault Eurocup, FIA Formula 3 Championship, and Formula 2 Championship all in consecutive years – a feat never achieved before.

This rapid ascent through the ranks caught the attention of multiple Formula One teams.

Despite being part of the Alpine Academy, Piastri ultimately landed a seat with McLaren for the 2023 season.

This came after a bit of a contract dispute between Alpine and Piastri’s management, but McLaren clearly saw the potential in the young driver. His debut season was impressive.

Piastri wasn’t just making up the numbers; he was a genuine contender.

He became the first rookie in over a decade to lead a Grand Prix and secured two podium finishes, including a win in a Sprint Race.

Racing record

Piastri is a rising star in Formula One, with a racing record that suggests a bright future. His success began in junior categories, where he achieved an impressive feat.

Piastri won three consecutive championships: Formula Renault Eurocup in 2019, FIA Formula 3 in 2020 and FIA Formula 2 in 2021.

This accomplishment is particularly noteworthy because he was a rookie in each of those championship-winning seasons.

In fact, he’s only the sixth driver ever to win Formula 2 in his debut year, and the fifth driver to take both the Formula 3 and Formula 2 titles in back-to-back seasons.

Following his dominance in the junior ranks, Piastri served as a reserve driver for the Alpine Formula 1 team in 2022.
