Man behind viral alchemist racism video retracts accusations

A man who had released a viral video that captured an alleged racial discrimination at the Alchemist Bar has made a U-turn in his claims.

Emmanuel Murgor released a statement claiming that he reviewed the footage once again, which told a different tale than what was initially depicted, stating that the club in fact embraced diversity and had no tolerance for racism.

“After reviewing the full footage of the evening and even from my experience inside, I can attest that The Alchemist embraces diversity. I also reiterate that from how the club’s management has handled the incident, they are open to diversity and have in fact zero tolerance towards racism,” his statement read.

He went to apologize for the video that he claimed painted the bar in a negative light, stating that he did not intend to imply that narrative through the clip as the establishment was highly respectable and displayed professionalism, especially in the wake of recent controversy.

Murgor stated that he was grateful that club’s management reached out to him to clear the air, and appreciated how the club and his legal team came to a resolution, stating that they displayed the utmost professionalism in how he and his team were treated.

“The club strives to be the most diverse club in Kenya and are in fact, the most racially diverse club in Kenya,” he said.

He was remorseful however over the aftermath of his actions that led to the indefinite closure of the premise by the Nairobi County Government, noting there were six businesses on the same establishment that suffered the same fate, rendering many jobless, and asked that they be retained.

“I urge The Alchemist to have their staff affected by the incident, retain their jobs. I also urge the public to stop their attacks and threats against the Alchemist on social media.” he implored.
