Deputy President William Ruto has finally ended the long wait and speculations about his deputy choice after naming Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate in the forthcoming August 9 General Election.
According to Ruto while speaking at Official residence, he and his Kenya kwanza followers convened a meeting that lasted about 17 hours and following an amiable mood in the meeting that decision was reached soon.
Ruto further described Gachagua is an astute debator, a principled, resilient and fearless fighter for the right cause and more of it he is a true hustler.
The DP said he will sign an executive order immediately after he gets into the office that will outline the roles of the deputy president.
“The DP under Kenya Kwanza will perform real duty as assigned to him by the president. My deputy and I have agreed when it is time to leave we will leave and we will mentor other leaders in Kenya Kwanza formation,” he said.
The lawmaker comes from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region and his appointment is aimed to endear Ruto’s candidature to over 5.85 million electorates in the area according to the unratified Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) figures.
The MP was lucky to win the position beating other candidates including Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki.
Others were Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Kiambu Governor Anne Waiguru, Kandara MP Alice Wahome, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi.
