Diamond Platnumz on the spot for featuring confederate flags in his new music video

[ad_1]

A heated debate was begun on social immediately after Tanzanian bongo star Diamond Platnumz released his new hit song dubbed Gidi as he featured Confederate flags in the song.

The confederate flag is seen as a symbol of slavery and racism.

In a part of the video, the star could be seen posing in front of a Texas-style themed bar dressed like a cowboy with the Confederate flag displayed above them.

Social media users could not keep mum about the video with many sharing comments proving how much they were irked by Diamond and his entire team.

@nasrymsulwa: I wouldn’t expect Diamond to know anything about the Confederate Flag and its meaning. Copy and paste inashida yake sometimes, I’m pretty sure they recreated a scene from a music video or a movie and thought it’s cool

@LordChitechi: Someone needs to educate Diamond that those Confederate flags represent white Supremacy. Tanzanians are having none of it in the replies

@Aadozo: This is what happens when you copy the west music

@ItsMutai: This man Diamond is an embodiment of fame with ignorance and stupidity. That he allowed these flags and himself in one set is indictment on his team, his level of knowledge or lack of it thereof

According to BBC, the Confederate flag was first raised in 1962 as defiance against civil rights and a white supremacist response that intimidated black people.

The flag was designed in South Carolina in the US for the confederacy of the South which declared that it was going to be its own nation leading to a civil war in the 1860s.

At the time, the flag was considered as a symbol of ‘The South’ and its heritage.

However, the initial designer of the flag wrote explicitly saying that the symbol of the flag was a white background and was designed as a symbol of white supremacy.
