Carlos Sainz Jr. is a Spanish racing driver who has carved a name for himself in the highly competitive world of Formula One.

Born in Madrid in 1994, Sainz Jr. was practically born into racing, as his father, Carlos Sainz Sr., is a two-time World Rally champion.

Sainz Jr.’s talent was evident early on, and he quickly rose through the ranks of junior racing formulas. His big break came in 2014 when he clinched the championship title in Formula Renault 3.5.

This success opened the door to Formula One, and he joined the Toro Rosso team in 2015.

Sainz Jr.’s mother, Reyes Vázquez de Castro, has been a constant source of support for both her husband and her son throughout their racing careers.

While Sainz Sr. was busy building his racing legacy, Reyes prioritized raising their three children – Blanca, Carlos Jr., and Ana. This allowed Sainz Jr. to pursue his passion for racing, which he likely inherited from his father.

Karting career

Sainz Jr.’s journey to Formula 1 stardom began on the go-kart track. He wasn’t always racing competitively, though. There were earlier forays into smaller racing series before he officially started karting in 2006 at the age of 12.

Just two years later, his talent and dedication started to shine through. In 2008, Sainz Jr. conquered the Asia-Pacific KF3 championship, a prestigious title in the karting world.

Formula One career

Sainz Jr. has carved a path through Formula One since 2015, following in the racing footsteps of his father, rally legend Carlos Sainz Sr.

After honing his skills in junior categories like Formula Renault and Formula 3, Sainz landed a seat with Toro Rosso, the feeder team for Red Bull Racing.

Partnering with future star Max Verstappen, Sainz quickly gained a reputation for his tenacity and ability to fight for position.

His career took him to Renault in 2017, where he continued to impress with consistent finishes. In 2019, Sainz made a pivotal move to McLaren, where he finally secured his first podium finish at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

This success, along with his desire to break free from the Red Bull development program, led him to Ferrari in 2021.

At Ferrari, Sainz has blossomed alongside teammate Charles Leclerc. The 2022 season saw him claim his maiden Grand Prix victory at the British Grand Prix, a thrilling race where he capitalized on a late safety car to overtake Leclerc.
